Update on Southeastern Operations
We want to provide clarity on today’s events and reassure our community that we are working diligently to address the impact of the recent federal funding pause.
What Happened?
On Monday evening, the Trump administration issued a memo from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) announcing a temporary pause on agency grants, loans, and other financial assistance. The memo did not specify which entities would be affected, leaving organizations like ours in a difficult position.
Given this uncertainty, we made the responsible decision to temporarily pause operations to ensure we could continue funding programs and pay our employees beyond January 31.
Our programs—including Housing HCV (Section 8) vouchers, Head Start, the Community Services Block Grant Program, and the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP)—depend entirely on federal funding.
While later updates from OMB indicated that programs like ours should not be affected, many agencies, hospitals, and nonprofits—including SCAP—were unable to access the federal funding system throughout the day. We regained access late this afternoon, allowing us to resume operations.
Where Are We Now?
✅ SCAP’s offices and services are OPEN
✅ Head Start & Early Head Start Centers are operating
✅ Housing and community programs continue to serve those in need
However, this situation is far from resolved. We recognize the uncertainty and disruption this has caused for our staff and the families we serve.
What’s Next?
We are encouraged as multiple groups have taken legal action to challenge the funding freeze. On Tuesday evening, U.S. District Court Judge Loren L. AliKhan issued a temporary stay on the funding freeze until February 3 at 5 p.m. ET.
While this is a positive development, we remain cautious. We will continue to monitor the situation and advocate for uninterrupted funding for our programs.
Moving Forward
We know that today’s events have been unsettling. SCAP is committed to transparency, and we will provide updates as more information becomes available.
Thank you for your patience, trust, and dedication to our mission.
