Family Empowerment Self-Sufficiency (FESS) spotlight is on Ms. Jestine Davis, a Hoke County resident and a Southeastern Community Action Partnership customer. Ms. Davis, a mother of one, enrolled in the FESS program in 2020 in hopes of bettering her and her daughter’s lives.

Ms. Davis has been active since enrolling; she has attended financial workshops, completed ACT Work Keys National Career Readiness and utilized the program’s education support to complete a notary course at Richmond Community College. Ms. Davis searched for employment diligently and participated in several interviews but could not seal the deal of becoming employed. Ms. Davis could have given up and accepted things as they were, but with perseverance and determination, she continued her employment search.

Through comprehensive case management, Ms. Davis was able to receive proper clothing for an interview through another FESS program. Little did Ms. Davis know, that her interview clothing would become her work clothing. On that same day, Ms. Davis received a job offer at a local college as a Career Coach. Ms. Davis emailed her case manager the following day and shared the good news.

Ms. Davis has granted permission for Southeastern to share a portion of her email to her case manager.

“I hope this email finds you well. I just wanted to reach out and thank you again for the clothes on yesterday. I am so overwhelmed with gratitude because they were something that I truly needed in this transitional period in my life. I am happy to report; however, that the clothes are not Interview Clothes, instead they are actual Work Clothes!!!!!!!!! I was offered the Career Coach position. I am super excited about this opportunity and I cannot thank you enough for giving me the guidance, motivation, and assistance I needed to stay on track and in the race.

Even upon speaking with you yesterday, your words filled me up and gave me the strength to keep pushing forward. Thank you so much for all that you do! You and the entire staff at SCAP are truly Godsent and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart”.

Ms. Davis, the entire staff at Southeastern Community Action Partnership, Community Services Block Grant Program – Family Empowerment Self-Sufficiency, congratulate you on your new position as a Career Coach at a local college. We wish you much success!
