Scotland County donates land to Southeastern Community Action Partnership

Scotland County Commissioners have agreed to donate the land behind the former I.E. Johnson Elementary School to Southeastern Community Action Partnership (SCAP) during the Scotland County Board of Commissioners Regular Meeting on Monday, Feb. 6.

SCAP received 10 acres of donated land and the agency plans to bring affordable housing to the community by providing 65 units, including garden apartments and single-family homes. Some planned units will be leased and some single-family housing can be purchased through SCAP’s homeownership program. Once complete, the residential complex will feature housing, playgrounds, walking trails, and outdoor common areas.

“On behalf of Southeastern, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Scotland County Commissioners for their partnership and support. Your dedication to helping our agency provide affordable housing for our local community will be an investment that will pay off for years to come, said Dr. Ericka Jones Whitaker, SCAP CEO.

The project is estimated to take 24-30 months to complete once it begins and the complex is estimated to be over 100,000 square feet.
