CSBG Success Story — FESS Spotlight: Mr. Robert Bostick

The Family Empowerment Self-Sufficiency (FESS) spotlight shines on Mr. Robert Bostick, a dedicated resident of Scotland County and a valued customer of Southeastern Community Action Partnership.

As a proud father of two young sons, Mr. Bostick enrolled in the FESS Program in September 2024 with a clear goal in mind: to build a better future for himself and his children. His commitment to personal growth and stability reflects the heart of the FESS mission — empowering families to achieve long-term self-sufficiency and success.

Since enrolling, Mr. Bostick has remained consistently active and engaged in working toward self-sufficiency. He has sought employment opportunities, pursued stable and affordable housing, and strengthened his financial knowledge by attending workshops such as Financial Literacy, Credit 101, Begin Now Financial and Counseling Services, and Keys to Homeownership.

Throughout his journey, Mr. Bostick diligently searched for employment, attending job fairs, submitting applications, and participating in several interviews. Although he initially faced challenges in securing a position, he never allowed setbacks to discourage him. His perseverance and determination reflect his resilience, hope, and unwavering dedication to building a brighter future for himself and his sons.

Mr. Bostick secured part-time employment at Waffle House in June 2024, working there until January 2025. He later gained employment at Dollar Tree in June 2025 as a stocker and began training as a cashier. Through the FESS Program, he received employment support including work clothes, work shoes, and gas for his vehicle.

Mr. Bostick and his two sons were residing with his stepfather while he worked toward securing stable housing. Through the SCAP Housing Voucher Program, he was able to secure a home for his family. The FESS Program also provided rental assistance and covered the utility deposit during the transition. This new chapter also includes his fiancée, as the couple recently became engaged.

“My goal is to be the best father I can be and create a better life for my family. The FESS Program has given me the tools, support, and encouragement I needed to keep going.” — Mr. Robert Bostick
